A pill is not the answer??

So many people go to their doctor when they are feeling bad or tense beyond explanation. Their life may have become unmanageable in connection with a mood disorder, alcohol, drugs, trauma or other difficult life circumstances. This is not a bad place to start because your primary doctor, theoretically, knows you and has some baseline for what is "normal" for you. Here is where the problem comes in. Most medical doctors have limited options available for behavioral or substance related issues. You will likely come out of the office with an antidepressant, anti-anxiety med or a mood stabilizer. Or if your issue is alcohol or drugs; Methadone, buprenorphine, Disulfiram or naltrexone.

Please, please understand that this is only treating the symptoms. Look for a competent, compassionate, caring therapist in your area that can help you get to the root of the problem and help you learn new coping skills. This is to be done with your doctor so that you get the very best of care. Know this, if you use the pharmaceutical

solution alone, it will leave you hanging at some point in your life. You may find yourself worse off years from now if you don't get tools, learn about yourself, face the pains and choose to be better with the professional guidance of a counselor. We're here to help you in whatever way we can but we can do nothing if you don't take the first step and contact us. advocatecounselingmi@gmail.com
